BIC (Bank Identifier Code)

Is an 8 or 11-character code that identifies a specific bank or branch. The first 4 letters represent the bank code, the next 2 letters or digits are the country code, the next 2 letters or digits are the location or city code, and the last 3 characters (optional) are the branch code. For example, in the BIC `CITIUS33XXX`, `CITI` is the bank code, `US` is the country code, `33` is the location code, and `XXX` is the branch code (indicating the bank’s head office).
