Card Verification Value (CVV)/Card Verification Code (CVC)
A security feature for Card-Not-Present (CNP) transactions, such as online or over-the-phone purchases. It is a three or four-digit number found on the back of credit cards. The CVV/CVC helps verify that the customer has the physical card during the transaction ensuring the person making the transaction is in possession of the card and not just using stolen card details. This number is never stored by merchants, further protecting cardholders from unauthorized use of their card information.
